The Kannapolis Police Department is at 401 Laureate Way, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The main number is 704-920-4000. The department is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Records Division can be reached at 704-920-4129 or by email at KPD_records@kannapolisnc.gov.

The department holds Advanced Accreditation from CALEA. This is the top level of law enforcement accreditation. Only a small share of agencies in the country have it. This means the department must follow strict rules for policies, procedures, and records management. Kannapolis warrant records are handled under these high standards.

To get incident reports, contact the Records Department at KPD_records@kannapolisnc.gov or 704-920-4129. Only the first page of a report is public record under North Carolina law. The rest, including the narrative, would need a subpoena from a lawyer.

Accident reports are no longer online due to state law. You must come in person with an ID to get one. Insurance firms and law offices can email the department on behalf of their clients. For accident reports by mail, you can also use DMV form TR-67A, though there is a fee.

Note: CAD records are available through TeleCommunications Center Manager Hollie Morton at hmorton@kannapolisnc.gov or 704-920-4091 after completing a Freedom of Information Act form.

Kannapolis eWarrants System

The Kannapolis Police Department uses the statewide eWarrants system for all arrest processes. This system is maintained by the North Carolina Judicial Branch. No paper criminal summons, warrants, or orders for arrest are kept at the local level. All legal arrest documents are created and stored in the system when a magistrate or other judicial official approves them.

Wanted individual data within Kannapolis is sent out to all staff who have access to the eWarrants system. This means warrant information is available to officers right away. The system covers the entire state, so a Kannapolis warrant is visible to any officer in North Carolina.

Other legal process documents are kept by the Records Unit of the Staff Services Division. This records system allows 24-hour access. Information in it includes the date and time received, type of process, nature of document, source, complainant or defendant name, assigned staff, date of assignment, court file number, and service due date.

A record of each attempt to serve legal process is also kept. This covers the location, date and time, name of the officer, and reason for non-service. Once served, the record shows the date, time, serving officer, person served, method, and location. All of this feeds into Kannapolis warrant records.
